In 1924 whilst working for Dunlop Rubber Co, A.E.Penfold, submitted a patent that would change the tennis ball forever. He had already created the “Maxfli” golf ball and had various patents on golf ball technology. “A new ball, which it is claimed will revolutionize the game of lawn tennis” - The India-Rubber Journal stated in its article in January, 1925. The article gives an in detail interview with Mr. Penfold on the invention and why Dunlop moved so quick to protect the patent of the airtight tennis ball in “every civilised country of the globe.”
